Family Challenge: Loving God and Our Neighbors

Memorize these two verses as a family:

Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all you heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Talk about what God is trying to tell us through these two verses.

Ask: What are some things that we are tempted to love more than God? Who are some people that are difficult for us to love? What are some things that stop us from helping others follow Jesus.

Activity: Pray as a family for the following:

  • God will help us love him more than anything.
  • God will help us love those who are difficult to love.
  • Pray for someone who is not following Jesus, that they will be open to following Jesus. Pray for a chance to share Jesus with them.
