Psalms: 11, 12

Matthew: Not unlike John the Baptist, here Jesus delivers a blistering series of “woes” to the Pharisees. First these individuals should know better, i.e., recognize the truth of what Jesus is saying. These are typically the last to accept the truth and then do much to prevent others from learning it or following it. “Natural man doesn’t want to be the object of God’s grace and doesn’t want God to show mercy to others.” (Believers Bible Commentary p. 1212).

Gospel: Matthew 23:13-26

New Testament: Romans 8:31-39

Old Testament: Num. 35:1-3, 9-15, 30-34
