Psalm: 116
Meditation
Matthew: “Death comes to us all,” Thomas More tells the court which is to condemn him to death. This is the second time in as any chapters where Christ predicts His death and resurrection. Of course, the disciples appear to stop listening at “death” and prove to be surprised when they are informed (by a woman, if you please) that Jesus had risen from the dead. Jesus also submits to Temple authorities by paying the two-drachma tax (about two days’ wages annually). As the rightful King of Israel He is exempt from the tax and yet still he paid.
Gospel: Matthew 17:22-27
New Testament: Romans 1:16-25
Old Testament: Numbers 11:1-23
