Psalm: 76

Numbers: In chapter 13 Moses had sent 12 spies (one man from each tribe) to scope out the Promised Land. Being weak in faith and faint of heart 10 of the spies returned with a most defeatist report. Only Caleb and Joshua were encouraging of the 12 urging the people on to battle – with the LORD’s blessing. But it was not to be. The LORD’s response? “How long will this wicked community grumble against Me?” (v. 27) This grumbling never grows old for these people. Here the LORD declares that no one over 20 will live to cross over the Jordan except Caleb and Joshua.

Gospel: Luke 12:49-56

New Testament: Acts 15:1-12

Old Testament: Numbers 14:26-45
