Psalms: 34

Matthew: This is the genealogy of Jesus the Christ. Of all the genealogies in the Bible, this is the most important one. This one traces Jesus’ roots all the way back to Abraham. The first 11 chapters of 1 Chronicles has a dizzying array of genealogies, which, for the most part, are useless. The genealogies after the exile were important mainly to the tribe of Levi in order to secure the priesthood. Paul, many centuries later, bragged he could trace his bloodline to the tribe of Benjamin. Most are lost today.

Gospel: Matthew 1:1-17;  3:1-6

New Testament:1 Peter  5:1-14

Old Testament: Exodus 18:13-27
