Prayer Psalm: 85

Prayer Point: Try following the flow of Psalm 8 with your own prayers today. Remember what God has done in your life and give him praise. Lift up to God whatever is troubling you in your life or in the world and ask him to “restore us again.” Praise God that the future of our world is secure, and our salvation is sure because of Jesus. Jesus lived a faithful life in our place and he died our death bringing together God’s faithfulness and mercy (see verses 10-11).

Matthew 7:22-27

Why will some people, who profess to be followers of Jesus and even perform miracles be shut out of the kingdom of heaven? What are they lacking?

Matthew 7:24-27 is the conclusion of Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount.” What does Jesus expect his followers to do with his teaching? What does he call the person who hears his words but does not put them into practice? What about the person who lives Jesus’ teachings?

Ephesians 2:1-10

Paul makes a startling statement in verse 1 that we were dead. In what way were we dead?  Who has made us alive?  Why did God the Father make us alive?  What is God the Father’s purpose for us?

1 Samuel 1:21-2:10

1 Samuel 1:21-2:10 (Friday) Hannah’s “Magnificat” (Song)
Once her son is weaned, Hannah, in fulfillment of her vow, returns to Shiloh with a generous sacrifice and dedicates Samuel to the LORD (all the days of his life). She reacquaints herself with Eli and reminds him of her experience in the temple the previous year. Perhaps Mary, Jesus’ mother, was familiar with Hanna’s Song when she composed her “Magnificat”; the parallels are striking:
